Every story can start out the same about the Miami Marlins: The Marlins have had a disappointing season and are looking to dump….
Well that story is true. The Marlins have had one disappointing, roller coaster year ever since they got into the new ballpark and started being big players in free agency. The team signed three great players in Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Heath Bell. Reyes has been down compared to last year while Bell has lost his closing spot to Steve Cishek. The only one that seems to be doing alright is Buehrle, although he has a 12-11 record and a 3.65 ERA, which is fairly decent.
Regardless of Buehrle’s record, there is a slight chance that he could get the next ticket out of town.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, who have made gigantic moves this season, are interested in another starting pitcher after already acquiring two in Joe Blanton and Josh Beckett. The Dodgers are willing to take on major salaries and Buehrle’s four-year, $58 million is pretty hefty.
It would be an extreme waste if the Marlins trade Buehrle. He has been producing wins for the team and a possible trade with the Dodgers would increase the depth in their rotation that already includes reigning NL Cy Young award winner Clayton Kershaw, Josh Beckett, Chris Capuano, Aaron Harang and Blanton.
The Dodgers are currently 2.5 games behind the San Francisco Giants in the NL West. With the season heading into the last month, the last week of any possible trades will be interesting to see.
