The New York Yankees finally bounced back from an awful series against the Tampa Bay Rays winning the final game of the series 6-4. Yankees catcher Russell Martin woke up from a slumbering season to give the Yanks two hits, one a double and one a home run. Martin finished the game with three RBI on the day.
Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda picked up his 13th win of the season lasting six innings giving up all of the Rays’ four runs on eight hits while only striking out three batters, but that was all the Yankees needed. Rafael Soriano wrapped up the game with his 36th save of the season.
The team that the Yankees pushed down in the division were the Baltimore Orioles. The O’s lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 after Rajai Davis came through with a bases clearing single in the seventh inning to lift the Jays. Davis also hit a home run in the third inning to cut the lead in half.
Adam Jones and Mark Reynolds both hit home runs in the loss.
Now both teams will be focusing on the huge four-game series at Camden Yards this weekend. With the Yankees up by one game, the Orioles will need to win the series at least 3-1 to give them a comfortable lead heading into mid-September. However, the Yankees are not just going to let the Orioles walk all over them in their home ballpark.
Both teams will be bringing fire power to the mound and making it seem like it is mid-October instead of the start of September.
