Chicago White Sox Catcher AJ Pierzynski Will Not Be Suspended For Rumored PED Use

AJ Pierzynski has been having a career offensive year, but those numbers have came at a price.  On Wednesday, a nasty rumor started to fly that the Chicago White Sox catcher was going to be suspended by the MLB for using performance enhancing drugs.  Luckily that is not the case, as the league has assured the Sox that no such thing will occur.

Honestly, I would have not been shocked if AJ Pierzynski would have been using PEDs.  That is just the era of baseball that we happen to live in right now.  Players who have breakout years, especially at the age of AJ, will be looked at under a microscope.  If you would have told me that he would have a career high in home runs long before the end of the season, I probably would have guessed PEDs.

If you look at his recent play, a possible suspension does fit into the time line.  His play has been pretty brutal over the last couple of weeks and it looks like his head is simply not in the game.  That could easily have been a sign of a drug testing battle that he was eventually going to lose.

Thankfully ,the Sox were proactive and they were able to squash this thing before it spread too far.  The rumors stated that AJ would be banned on Thursday and that would put a serious damper into the playoff hopes for the team.  With the Sox outperforming almost every expectation, a suspension to Pierzynski could have been a death blow.
