The Miami Marlins are desperately looking forward to the offseason after a huge disappointing season that is looking like it will culminate into a last place finish in the National League East division. Changes will come this season whether it be on the field or off the field and the first big change that could come in the general manager’s chair.
GM Larry Beinfest told 790 The Ticket that he understands that he could lose his job this winter due to the club’s struggles this season. The rumor that has been heard is that Beinfest will either lose his job or be reassigned to a new position in the organization.
But how can Beinfest be fired after the people he has brought in this past offseason: Mark Buehrle, Jose Reyes and Heath Bell? Well, Bell lost his closer role, Reyes is not wining a batting championship any time soon and Buehrle has double-digit losses for the eighth time in his career.
The team’s season started off poorly when controversy struck after Reyes signed and Hanley Ramirez was not very willing to move to third base. Then, the team lost its home opener to the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals. To make matters worse, Ozzie Guillen ran his mouth about Cuba, which had some fans calling for his firing.
All of that combined with a poor record and you have an unhappy fan base with a brand new stadium to fill. How will Loria handle this situation? It very well could be Beinfest’s job.
