The entire league knows that Dusty Baker, Cincinnati Reds’ manager, is in the final year of his contract. The entire league knows also that Baker has not signed or even really discussed an extension to his contract with the Reds. The Reds have come out and said that they want to keep Baker. The discussions, by all reports, will take place after the season is over. All that said, it is no secret that the MLB Rumors are Baker will be a wanted man by many teams in the league, if the Reds do not lock him up.
Although many question Baker’s ability as a manager – and there are many - you cannot question that he has had a great three year run with the Reds. In 2010, he led them to the Central Division title and he’s about to do it again. This time without his best player for over a month.
Still there seems to be quite the market out there for him to possibly go if the Reds do not re-sign him.
-Los Angeles Angels - The Angels, despite the many big pickups and the 6 years, $30 million contract appear ready to fire Mike Scioscia if they do not make the playoffs. It is unlikely they will make the playoffs. MLB Rumors has the Angels being interested in free agent Dusty Baker.
-Boston Red Sox - Now here’s a disfunctional ball club. Don’t be surprised if they fire Bobby Valentine and look for Baker’s services.
-Los Angeles Dodgers - The Dodgers made big moves during the season and have spent the money. If they don’t have a playoff appearance as a reward, MLB Rumors has it that they may be looking for Baker as a possible replacement.
Even if many of these MLB Rumors are not true or don’t become true, it is imperative that the Reds do everything in their power to lock up their skipper. This blogger certainly believes that he deserves it.
