Chicago Cubs Have a Bright Future With Starlin Castro And Anthony Rizzo
The Chicago Cubs have had a brutal season. They’ve been embarrassing, tough to watch, frustrating, and probably made a few fans turn in their fan cards. Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer were brought in by Tom Ricketts to re-build this organization from top to bottom, and I know many fans don’t understand that, and don’t understand how they’re going about doing it. I’m here to say the future is bright, and the dark days will soon be behind us. Why? Because the Cubs have 2 outstanding young talents to build around; Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro.
Both of these players are special. I don’t care who you are or what you think. If you don’t believe in these 2 guys, you don’t know baseball and that’s a fact. Starlin Castro is such a good hitter, it’s exciting to watch. He can use all fields, consistently makes solid contact, is getting stronger and developing power. He has things to work on such as plate patience, strike zone knowledge, and understanding a count and that’s the learning curve. He’s done all this while being mis-used in the line up which is even more crazy to me. He’s hit anywhere from 1-6, and he’s done it all well, but when you jerk a young kid around like that all the time- the results might not be there. Castro has done it, and he’s only going to get better.
Anthony Rizzo came over in a crazy trade with the San Diego Padres. What a trade that was. Rizzo also can hit with power to all fields, and has the ability to get on base frequently. This kid is the real deal, and the Cubs are very lucky to have him on their roster. With Rizzo and Castro at the top of the order, how can a Cubs fan be all gloom and doom?
If the Cubs add quality veterans, and continue to build their farm system, this is going to be a dangerous organization. They need to continue adding young arms, and will have to be active on that front- but with Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro at the top? It’s one heck of a start. I look forward to seeing what they can do when the right talent is around them.
