Yunel Escobar Has Homophobic Slur on Eye Black

John E. Sokolowski-US PRESSWIRE

When the Atlanta Braves shipped shortstop Yunel Escobar to the Toronto Blue Jays for next to nothing, it was widely perceived the Braves were giving up on Escobar because of attitude problems. After all, he was a young, talented shortstop who was under team control, things that all teams would die to have. But we are now seeing why the Braves dumped Escobar, with that reason being that he is an immature idiot.

During Saturday’s game, Escobar had a message written on his eye black in Spanish. Since I – and many others – do not speak Spanish, it went under-the-radar. I mean, who actually reads what is on player’s eye black, especially if it’s in Spanish. Most messages are inspirational or some form of reflection; however, Escobar’s message wasn’t inspirational in anyway.

His message – which you can see here – was “TU ERE MARICON”, which means “you’re a f****t” in Spanish. Exactly why does Escobar want to put that on his eye black? Apparently, that term isn’t used as a gay-bashing term in Escobar’s culture, but rather just a generic insult to someone. The political incorrectness in me understands that, but I’m not wearing apparel saying that.

How clueless do you have to be to think this is a smart decision. If Escobar’s dissappointing season wasn’t enough reason for him to get the boot in Toronto, this certainly is enough.

It’s understood that Major League Baseball is investigating the situation, and if Bud Selig had any sense, he should just suspend Escobar for the rest of the season.
