Over the past month the New York Yankees have experienced plenty of ups and downs; watching their 10-game lead in the AL East dwindle down to being in a tie with the Baltimore Orioles, regaining that lead from the Orioles, seeing a bunch of their key players suffer injuries (Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson and CC Sabathia) and watching Derek Jeter tied then passed the great Willie Mays for 10th on Major League Baseball‘s all-time hit list. However things seem as if they’re about to change for the Bronx Bombers now.

A good team can only be that if they have their players healthy and ready for action especially when it’s time to perform near and in the postseason. With that being said one of the better teams in the American League are going to be exactly with many of their key players returning from injuries. Alex Rodriguez returned from a broken bone in his left hand a few weeks ago, Granderson and Sabathia also returned from their minor injuries. Ivan Nova made his return Saturday versus the Tampa Bay Rays (after missing almost four weeks due to inflammation in his pitching shoulder) and pitched six dominant innings, only allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out eight and walking two.

Tonight the Yanks will welcome back veteran, lefty Andy Pettitte versus the Toronto Blue Jays in hopes that he can provide them with another victory and more stabilization to their starting rotation. Once he makes his presence felt in the rotation and Jeter’s gimpy right ankle heals then all New York will need is for Teixeira to return from his calf strain for them to be at almost full strength for the first time since June.

If everything goes as planned then the Yankees will have a week or so to get everyone back firing on all cylinders before the postseason (which they hope they will be a part of) begins. If they do make the playoffs as either the AL East division champion or as one of the two AL Wild Card teams then they should be poised to make a deep run into October which could mean a trip to the World Series and/or a 28th World Championship.

Timing is everything in sports and right now the Yankees have some great timing on their side!
