Milwaukee Brewers Lineup Against San Diego Padres, Oct. 2

Benny Sieu-US PRESSWIRE

The Milwaukee Brewers (82-78) have secured a winning season after their victory over the San Diego Padres (75-85) Monday night. Carlos Gomez, Rickie Weeks, and Jonathan Lucroy each hit a home run to help the Brewers defeat the Padres 5-3. Also, starter Shaun Marcum ended the season with back-to-back wins.

The following is Milwaukee’s starting lineup against San Diego for Tuesday night:

Right Field: Norichika Aoki
Center Field: Logan Schafer
Left Field: Ryan Braun
First Base: Travis Ishikawa
Catcher: Martin Maldonado
Third Base: Taylor Green
Shortstop: Jean Segura
Second Base: Jeff Bianchi
Pitcher: Tyler Thornburg

Aramis Ramirez, Corey Hart, Weeks, Gomez, and Lucroy will all get the day off as manager Ron Roenicke has elected to give the younger guys some much deserved playing time. It will be interesting to see how the Brewers do with their September call ups as Roenicke certainly expects to win the ball game.

Rookie Tyler Thornburg will make his third start of the season. He replaces Wily Peralta in the starting rotation who suffered a biceps injury. Thornburg has only appeared twice since his September call up due to Milwaukee making a legitimate run at a postseason berth. In those two appearances, he allowed one earned run on three hits in four innings. This is a big opportunity for Thornburg to show off his talents and possibly earn a roster spot for next year.

Logan Schafer, Taylor Green, and Jeff Bianchi will be doing the same thing as none of them are guaranteed a roster spot in 2013. Considering Milwaukee will have a decent amount of money to spend in free agency this winter, it will be interesting whom they elect to keep on the team when it is all said and done. My guess is out of the three, Schafer has the best chance of making the squad due to his solid bat and decent defensive skills.
