It’s not many times a rookie is relied on as the go to guy in the MLB playoffs, but Yoenis Cespedes is just that for the Oakland A’s. Let’s get past the fact the A’s have played surprising baseball this year and just say- they deserved their spot. However, the postseason is a different beast. The Oakland A’s need a middle of the order to generate offense as pitching takes over quite often. Yoenis Cespedes has some nasty power and a live bat. If he can come up big in the middle and be that run producer, the Oakland A’s are going to be in a much better position.
The one thing I really like about him is his bat speed. He can turn on a heater on the inner half and drive it. Hitting a major league fastball isn’t as easy as it looks, and as the year has gone on, he’s really matured into a very nice run producer.
I really like this team. I really hope he comes up big for the city because he’s simply fun to watch. We all assumed the A’s signed him, just to trade him at the deadline and continue rebuilding. Those days seem to be over to a certain degree, and I’m glad they are. When the A’s are good, it’s good for baseball. I like it when baseball has excitement in the postseason and I can’t wait to get going.
We’ll see if Cespedes lives up to the hype in his first postseason. I certainly hope he does.
