Chris Carpenter Is Key For the St. Louis Cardinals In Game 2
The St. Louis Cardinals came all the way back in game 5 to beat the Washington Nationals and then followed it up with a very solid game 1 win against the San Francisco Giants on the road. They have their “ace” Chris Carpenter going in game 2, and if the Cardinals want to jump to a 2-0 series lead? Chris Carpenter is going to have to attack the strike zone.
He’s missed a good part of the year, and I don’t think his arm strength is what he’s been in years prior. Which means if he builds a pitch count, it’s going to be tough on the Cardinals as they’ll have to get into their bullpen. It’s going to be on Carpenter to get ahead, not fool around the edges, and attack. If he does that, I believe the Giants are going to be in trouble.
Chris Carpenter is a gamer. He’s been in this spot before which is why I give him the nod. I don’t even care if he doesn’t have his good stuff- the guy knows how to pitch and I think that’s going to serve the Cardinals well. If the offense can jump out to an early lead, Carpenter has the ability to bury the Giants.
The Cardinals are a special team, once again this year. I believe Chris Carpenter is the key, and I believe he will deliver in the biggest game for the Cardinals in this series. Let’s see if he can lead his team to the 2-0 series lead heading back home to St. Louis.
