Can Javier Baez Emerge In 2013 For Chicago Cubs?

Perfect Game

Down on the farm, Javier Baez had a huge year in the minors and I believe he is going to be a monster for the Chicago Cubs.  He’s currently playing in the Arizona Fall League and with a big fall, big spring training, and a good start to the year, it’s not impossible to see Javier Baez with the Chicago Cubs in 2012. This guy is incredibly talented, but I don’t think the Cubs have any idea where he’s going to play. If they can figure that out, he certainly will be put on the fast track to the big leagues.

Baez is currently a top 100 prospect, and I expect him to be in the top 10 by early spring. This kid can do it all with the bat and he’s got a poise to him that a lot of young hitters don’t have. The Cubs took him in the first round only a few years ago so he’s still insanely young. I think a lot has to go right for the Cubs to bring him up, but I don’t think it’s impossible.

I’d love to see the Cubs start to bring up young kids that have the ability to be very good major league ball players. They’ve struggled for a long time with player development so it’ll be interesting to see what this new regime can do. If Baez can develop into what I think he can be, the Cubs are going to be in a much better spot for the next several years. We’ll see what happens over the next several months, but hopefully Baez makes it very difficult on the Cubs to keep him in the minors.
