Since being benched by New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi in game five of the American League Division Series versus the Baltimore Orioles last Friday, Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has had his name involved in a number of stories and rumors none of which had to do with him playing well on a baseball field.
Let’s begin with the on the field action. In game one of the Yankees, American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers, Rodriguez (0-3 with a strikeout) was pinch hit for in the eight inning with Eric Chavez (who also went 0-3 in the game but with two strikeouts). Then in game two Rodriguez was moved down to the sixth spot in the batting order by Girardi as he finally notched a hit and went one for four on the night in the Yanks 3-0 loss to the Tigers. In game three Rodriguez was again benched by Girardi and replaced by Chavez in the starting lineup. Now hours before game four is set to kick off Girardi has decided again to sit Rodriguez for Chavez who is now 0-14 this postseason himself.
Next up is are the reports that have surfaced that during game one instead of focusing on his team losing to Tigers, Rodriguez was apparently attempting to gain the phone number of Australian bikini-model, Kyna Treacy and her friend Kate Quinn (pictured above). A team source has confirmed that Rodriguez sent a ball into the crowd and delivered to the two females by one of the Yankees ball boys. The team source said “It’s true. It was witnessed in the dugout. The whole thing is true”. When Rodriguez was asked about the situation he responded, “don’t believe any of that (expletive).
Next comes the phone conversation that Rodriguez had with good buddy and Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant. Bryant confirmed that the two spoke and that he told Rodriguez “You’re A-Rod one of the best to ever do it”. Bryant told the media “I think sometimes he kind of forgets that and wants to try to do the right thing all of the time. Which is the right team attitude to have. But other times you really have to put your head down and say, ‘Hell with it’ and just do your thing”. Kobe then went on to say “we’re different….I think really the difference is, sometimes he forgets he’s the best…..where I don’t. That in my opinion is typical Kobe and even if you don’t like him or what he has to say, you must respect him because a star athlete must have that type of mentality to succeed.
Finally are the rumors that are swirling everywhere that there is a possibility that the Yankees would interested in sending Rodriguez to the Miami Marlins during the off-season. A source has recently come out and stated that Yankees president Randy Levine and Marlins owner Jeffery Loria had a conversation involving the possibility of Rodriguez being traded to the Marlins. According to the source in the conversation Loria told Levine “Alex is Mr. Miami wouldn’t it be great if he played here for us”. Levine then replied to Loria “you can have him”. The alleged conversation was first reported by Keith Olberman on his MLB.com “Nerd Blog”.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has said the reports to trade talk involving Rodriguez were “false”. The Yankees are still playing meaningful baseball and once that changes during the winter there is a possibility that any thing could happen and i don’t think Yankees fans would miss him one bit if he was shipped away.
That is incredible five days in one person’s life and it could only be Alex Rodriguez’s during the month of October!
