Cubs Make Wrong Move Pulling Season Ticket Renewals

In an interesting move during the day of Game 1 of the World Series, there are reports that the Chicago Cubs have sent “non-renewal notice” letters to about 40 season-ticket holders that the club believes are exploiting the system to sell their seats for profit.

I admit that I’m a diehard Cubs fan who would love to go to Wrigley Field every day if I possibly could but what on earth is the organization doing with this decision? If the season ticket holders want to sell their seats for profit, so be it. That’s their right to do. They are paying for their tickets before the season and whatever they want to do with them after making their payment is their decision.

I know the waiting list is long for season tickets as well. I’m sure that putting my child’s name on the list as soon as they are born would be the best way to see that their children may get season tickets by the year 2035. I hope Theo Epstein and company decide in the end that this is a bad decision and allow those season ticket holders the chance to still buy their seats for 2013.

The fans deserve better for paying for their seats during this rebuilding process that has at least another year or two left in it before the Cubs may become competitive again. In the meantime, you don’t want to alienate any of the fans who come out to see this team through thick and thin. Make the right decision and change this plan.
