Within the next few weeks, a few very important decisions will be made that may change the lives of many in this country. Yes, there is the Presidential election on November 6th that is garnering the bulk of all attention from coast to coast. But it is on November 14th when the real “Decision 2012″ is made for the rest of the country that follows their beloved MLB and especially the New York Mets.
On November 14th, Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey will find out his fate in the CY Young Award race that many believe should go to him. Yet there are others who can make a case for a closer from the Atlanta Braves by the name of Craig Kimbrel, SP Johnny Cueto from the Cincinnati Reds, SP Gio Gonzalez from the Washington Nationals and even SP Clayton Kershaw from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
On October 18th Dickey underwent surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle that he pitched with most of the season. That surgery went well in Philadelphia and Dickey should have no issues with being ready for spring training. Now the question remains if Dickey’s stats hold up against some of the best pitchers in the National League.
I do believe the baseball writers will take into consideration the Mets and the lack of run support when filling in their ballots, as well as the fact that Dickey won close to 30% of the team’s games in 2012. This decision may make Dickey just the sixth Mets pitcher to collect the CY Young award and I do feel he has done enough to deserve it.
