Why are Chicago White Sox Fans the Worst in Baseball?

David Richard-US PRESSWIRE

You would think that Chicago White Sox fans would have nothing to prove. They’ve won a World Series in the past 10 years and were in the AL Central race until the final days. But, in the nation’s third largest media market with the Chicago Cubs being one of the worst teams in baseball, the White Sox drew an average of 24,271 fans per contest. This placed them 24th in all of baseball. In comparison (and I only use this to show that there are baseball fans in Chicago), the Cubs drew an average of 35,589 fans placing them 10th.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I do not judge a teams’ success or failures based on how many fannies are in the seats. Trust me, I wish the Cubs (and yes, I am a Cubs fan) would stop drawing fans so they’d have more of an incentive to win. Instead, even when they lose over 100 games, the fans still support this inferior product.

I take issue with White Sox fans constantly looking for validation. Recently, an acquaintance started on me why the Cubs suck and the White Sox are such a better team. Well, that takes real genius. Here’s the thing that I’ve learned; worry about your own team! The Cubs success or failures have nothing to do with the White Sox. But if you go around and talk to enough of their fans, the first response you’ll always hear is, “we’re better than the Cubs.” There are two problems with this statement. The first and most obvious one is that they don’t play, manage, own or from the look of things attend many games. So saying “we” isn’t appropriate. Second of all, and here is the bigger issue, THE CUBS DON’T EVEN PLAY IN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE! White Sox fans should be far more concerned with the Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals.

Maybe one day White Sox fans will wake up and realize that there’s more to life than trying to feel important in the eyes of Cubs fans. That will be a glorious day indeed!
