Nothing like the MLB Rumors season to get the blood flowing. The Boston Red Sox are coming off a horrible 2012 campaign and they have a lot of work to do. They have some good pieces, but they could always use some more talent. That is why it makes sense for them to go after Shin-Soo Choo and Justin Masterson.
The Boston Red Sox have expressed interest in acquiring right-handed starter Justin Masterson and outfielder Shin-Soo Choo from the Cleveland Indians, major-league sources said.
This makes sense for both teams. The Indians need to rebuild their farm system before they can think about competing in the AL Central. The Red Sox have a lot of available money and adding these two pieces make sense. Both are young guys that still have room to grow.
In the case of Choo, he is an extremely underrated player. I guess playing in Cleveland probably contributes to that, but he is a very solid guy to have on your team. He plays good defense, swings a nice bat, and has a little bit of speed to go with that. Perfect fit for the Sox.
Masterson is also starting to come into his own as a pitcher. This means that he might be able to fetch some decent prospects. Cleveland certainly needs some pieces to build around and if they can gather those by moving Masterson, more power to them.
The rumors around these two players will continue to heat up. They are prime trade chips so expect a lot of GMs to come sniffing around. The Sox may have interest, but they will not be the only ones.
