Chicago Cubs Sign Scott Baker to a 1 Year Contract
The Chicago Cubs have kicked off their offseason. Unfortunately no, it’s not Dan Haren. The Cubs have agreed to a 1 year deal with right hander Scott Baker. I know, you are likely as excited as I am. Okay check that, I laughed when I read that. The Cubs have so much work to do with their roster and their signing Scott Baker who isn’t an upgrade from anyone. So why do it?
Well, I have a feeling Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer (thehoyer destroyer) brought Baker in as a depth guy. You know, when someone goes down with an injury you don’t have to throw Brooks Raley or better yet- Casey Coleman. Either way, hardly a move that’s going to excite anyone…unless you’re Scott Baker.
Baker had a few “solid” years with the Minnesota Twins but when it comes down to it- he’s not going to be any sort of a difference maker. I really don’t think the Cubs are done this off season but after the Haren thing fell apart…I don’t feel very confident in 2013. The Cubs need an ace, not Scott Baker. They need a guy that’s going to drive the baseball, not Scott Baker. They need a third basemen, not Scott Baker. I’m sure you get the point by now.
When it comes down to it, this move likely won’t matter one big for 2013. If this is the best the Cubs are going to do this offseason- well I already can tell you next year is going to suck worse than this year.
“Look out for these guys!.”
