MLB Rumors: Miami Marlins, Toronto Blue Jays Deal Under Review

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

Do not hold your breath, but the huge deal that took place Tuesday between the Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays, which included 12 players and a whole mess of money is under review by Bud Selig and Major League Baseball.

This is not something that is any different from any other trade that involves an incredible amount of money. Selig has to review every trade that is similar to this one, especially since the Marlins payroll decreases by around $70 million.

The trade is involving 12 players. The trade as it stands now is the Marlins trading Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle, Emilio Bonifacio, John Buck and $8 million to the Blue Jays for Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez, Jake Marisnick, Justin Nicolino and Anthony DeSclafani.

The Marlins opening day lineup could put Escobar at third base and Hechavarria at shorstop. Second base would be patrolled by Donovan Solano and Logan Morrison, barring him being dealt, will move from the outfield to first base, which has been the plan all along.

Morrison and starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco have both been cited as the next players to be traded in time. The New York Yankees and Colorado Rockies were both looking at Nolasco. Nolasco has one year remaining on his contract and Morrison’s contract still needs to be renewed for 2013.

Giancarlo Stanton is the only one that seems to be safe, for now.
