Kansas City Royals targets for 2013
The Kansas City Royals will have various targets of various priority for free agents in the 2013, but there is another type of target for 2013 at which one can look. The most interesting ones about which to think are what sort of goals the Royals might be setting for wins next year. Obviously this depends to an extent on how many of the free agent targets are signed. If the Royals pick up some of the bigger names that they want then they can be a lot more optimistic. But whether or not they do get some big names there ought to be some certain minimum goals for next year.
The biggest one is 81 wins, a .500 season for the first time since 2003 and only the second time since 1994. After all the work and after all the promise of the young players there was a strong sense that they might have got to .500 this year but that was pretty well scuttled after the second nasty losing streak of the season. But this year they will be thinking that the big problems are if not fixed at least better. That may or may not be true, but certainly another sub .500 season would be a disappointment.
But even if they do not manage to get to .500 overall the Royals should looking at getting 41 wins at home. The Royals should have a good advantage in Kauffman Stadium. It is unusually large and should give an edge to the Royals. But they still struggle to really do well at home. This year they should be looking to win more at home then they lose even if they don’t manage that overall.
