MLB Rumors: Would Shane Victorino Fit With Chicago Cubs?
This week is going to bring a ton of chatter around free agents with the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings going on. I can see several moves happening this week but there is one I would really like to see happen and that is Shane Victorino taking time out to talk to the Chicago Cubs, who desperately need a center fielder and leadoff hitter.
Victorino would fit perfectly into the Cubs’ lineup being a switch-hitter and would fit the hole that Brett Jackson couldn’t fill for Chicago during the end of the 2012 season. Also if Jackson can get his act together at Triple-A, Victorino could be moved to left field depending on the Cubs trading Alfonso Soriano. It is obvious that the Cubs are in need of a left-handed bat in the lineup with a very right-handed dominated group besides Anthony Rizzo and David DeJesus. If the Cubs can pull this move off, it would allow the flexibility to even have Victorino hit No. 3 in the order in front of Rizzo.
It seems like the Cubs are making more moves than even I expected them to make this offseason and this would just be another one of those as it seems the organization is making moves to make the 2013 season more enjoyable for fans. I will wait and see if this move happens or any other move to fill Wrigley Field up in 2013 but any move sounds like a good move to me at this point in time to avoid the National League Central cellar.
