The Chicago Cubs are kicking a ton of tires right now at the Winter Meetings, but the most interesting hitter that I keep coming back too is Grady Sizemore. Sizemore was one of the best hitters in baseball for a few years before a series of injuries have derailed a promising career. This is exactly the kind of player the Cubs are looking into right now. The low risk/high reward player that the Cubs won’t have to make a financial commitment in.
I’d actually be all for a one-year incentive kind of deal here. There is no way he’s going to get a multi-year deal from anyone so he will likely have his choice of places to play. If he can get healthy, hopefully he can get his career back on track. If he can do it in a Cubs uniform, that would be even better.
Sizemore still has that power that turned him into an All Star, but I doubt he has that dynamic ability to steal bases and run through walls anymore. However, if he can stay healthy who knows what he can be.
Let’s see if the Cubs continue to kick the tires of a Sizemore move over the next few days. Could certainly end up being a good one.
