MLB Rumors: Is Michael Bourn Good Fit For Seattle Mariners?
As the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings get into full swing in Nashville, there are rumors and signings all over the place. There is one free agent that I find very interesting in Michael Bourn and I think his combination of speed and power that he has found in the last year or two make him a very solid candidate for the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners need help on offense all over and Bourn would be a nice piece to put at the top of the batting order.
There are going to be people who think that Bourn isn’t a great fit or even a place that Bourn would consider going but when you really think about it, the Mariners could use a solid leadoff hitter in front of Dustin Ackley and Justin Smoak. That would at least give Seattle a chance to compete in the American League West with how top heavy the division is getting. The Mariners have the money to spend and need to make a move to get their fan base back on board again.
I wouldn’t be shocked if Bourn makes a decision in the next week or two and should be giving Seattle some very serious thought on a possible place to play. The Mariners management should be burning the phone lines up right now to make this deal happen as well and at least give the team a chance to get back to being respectable again. It isn’t going to happen overnight in Seattle but every little bit helps in the Pacific Northwest.
