Winter Meetings 2012: Are the Washington Nationals Going To Make a Run At Zack Greinke?
The Washington Nationals had an outstanding year in 2012, even though they idiotically shut down Stephen Strasburg in September in the middle of a pennant chase. We all know what happened; the Nationals ran out of gas last year in the postseason as the St. Louis Cardinals capitalized in one of the most dramatic finishes to a series in MLB history.
With that being said, the Nationals are NOT going to be silent this off-season and I believe they’re going to be able to come up with the money to make a serious run at Zack Greinke. Not only would that be disgusting (in a good way), but I’d immediately make them the favorite to win the world series next year. Can you imagine a four-man rotation of Stephen Strasburg, Zack Greinke, Gio Gonzalez, and Jordan Zimmerman? That is my definition of disgusting.
Will Greinke want to play in Washington? Who wouldn’t want to play in Washington these days? Mike Rizzo has that team improving fast, and I think they’ll be in the drivers seat for a long time coming.
We’ll see if the Nationals try and get with Greinke’s agents this week, and we’ll continue to update you on all things happening at the Winter Meetings in Nashville.
