Winter Meetings 2012: Chase Headley On the Market

The San Diego Padres have made Chase Headley available at the Winter Meetings, according to our sources. However, it will take a lot for the Padres to part with their slugging third basemen. I expect every team to make a few calls to San Diego, but I could see three or four realistically making a solid offer.

Headley can do it all on the field. He can hit for average, power and his ability to play defense is above average. If the Padres sell low on this guy, they will kick themselves for a long time. They should be asking for the world and that’s apparently what they’re doing.

A team that could emerge as a favorite for Headley? Of course it’s the New York Yankees. They just announced Alex Rodriguez will miss four to six months as he has another hip surgery, so they’re going to be in the market for a few different players for the left side of that infield. Headley would fit pretty awesome at the bandbox known as the new Yankee Stadium.

We’ll see if Headley talks heat up over the next few days and we’ll continue to update you on this developing story.
