Winter Meetings 2012: Chicago White Sox Planning On Standing Pat?
The Chicago White Sox have been relatively quiet at the Winter Meetings so far. That doesn’t mean much to me because they operate in secret most of the time. With Kenny Williams promoted along with Rick Hahn, they probably have a ton going on right now with that team. They could use a reliever, a guy that gets on base and shedding Alex Rios‘s contract, amongst other things. I’m just not sure they’re going to get anything done this week.
If the White Sox don’t make a move, I don’t think that will mean much for the rest of the winter. We’re dealing with an organization that likes to splurge when they can, and I think if they shed some money, they can certainly do that.
We’ll see what the White Sox have in place, but so far our sources said they have kept whatever they’re doing under wraps. So either they’re looking to make a huge splash somewhere or they’re not going to do anything at all.
I do want to throw in this last piece: Kevin Youkilis is about as good as gone right now as it doesn’t look like the White Sox will even make a realistic offer for him.
We’ll continue to update you on what’s going on over the next few days in Nashville.
