As if you thought the Miami Marlins were done making headlines, the MLB Winter Meetings arrive and the Marlins are back in the headlines. Aside from the organization shopping third baseman Yunel Escobar, right-handed pitcher Ricky Nolasco has made it known through his agent that he wants to be traded.

Nolasco has witnessed former teammates and rotation colleagues Anibal Sanchez, Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson get traded between the summer and beginning of fall and now it is his time to leave. Nolasco is also the highest paid Marlins player due to make $11.5 million in 2013 so it would make sense that the team continues to dump salary that Nolasco would be next to go.

In 2012, he was 12-13 with a 4.48 ERA in 31 starts. He struck out 125 batters and had a 5.9 K/9 ratio as well. Nolasco is also the most familiar face in the rotation that now is projected to consist of Henderson Alvarez, Wade LeBlanc, Jacob Turner and Nathan Eovaldi.

Nolasco has spent all of his seven seasons in the majors with the Marlins. He has compiled a record of 76-64 with a 4.49 ERA and 911 strikeouts. Nolasco owns the franchise records for most strikeouts, wins and games started for the Marlins. He also ranks eighth in career ERA and fifth in complete games.

It will be sad to see another familiar face from the Marlins get traded if the front office can strike a deal with a team. Nolasco has a favorable contract, which any team could be gladly to take on.
