The Arizona Diamondbacks have landed one of the best free agent pitchers today, according to multiple sources. Brandon McCarthy will stay out west and pitch for the new-look Diamondbacks for the next two years. He’s reportedly going to get close to $16 million total, so it looks like it’s a fair deal for both sides.
This is a really strong move for the Diamondbacks. They still are going to go up against the rich Los Angeles Dodgers and the defending champion San Francisco Giants, but this move should allow them to remain competitive. With the second wild card team in play, you never know what can happen.
McCarthy had his season cut short last year after that horrific line drive to his head, fracturing his skull. This deal is dependent on a physical, but all reports state that he’s healthy.
I don’t think this is going to be the last move the Diamondbacks make this winter and I like to see teams improve. McCarthy should fit right into their rotation and do good things in the national league.
