MLB Rumors: New York Mets Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey Taking His Talents To Toronto Blue Jays?

For months now, everyone has given their opinions, insight and even so-called expert opinion on what the New York Mets are going to do with their CY Young knuckleballer, R.A. Dickey.  Will they re-sign him for the money and the years he is looking for?  Will GM Sandy Alderson work out a trade that would be beneficial to the Mets for the long term?  Or will the Mets simply allow him to play in 2013 until some playoff giddy team comes calling at the MLB trade deadline, and they finally get what they want?

This has been a roller coaster ride of incredible proportions, as each day goes by with nothing that even closely resembles a solid lead to the truth.  The Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers and even the Kansas City Royals have been counted as suitors for the 38 year old knuckler.  But now, with Dickey growing ever more tired of the Mets game of negotiating, feeling he has already offered them the home town discount they need to cough up for him to return, Alderson just may have found the right team at the right time.

The Toronto Blue Jays, looking to finally make headway in the congested AL East, began revamping their team just a few short weeks ago adding P Josh Johnson, SS Jose Reyes, P Mark Buehrle, IN Emilio Bonafacio, and C John Buck.  Now they are looking to build possibly the league’s best rotation by adding Dickey.

The rumor mill has it the Mets would get back C J.P. Arencibia and OF Anthony Gose.  Gose may need a bit of seasoning, but Arencibia hit 18 HRs, 16 doubles, 151 total bases in 102 games for the Blue Jays in 2012.  That production is something the Mets would love to have behind their plate.  Not to mention that Arencibia in his rookie year(2011) hit 23 HRs and 78 RBI.

This trade would make sense for both clubs, as Toronto is flush with catchers, and the Mets could check off one glaring need on their roster.  For now, we all know the rumor mill is turning, but this is a situation that is sure to happen soon, if all the “reliable” sources are accurate.  I guess it’s like everything else the Mets do: just hurry up and wait while always believing.
