The 2012 Major League Baseball offseason continues on with big-name free agents signing. There is one player though that seems on the outside looking in right now in Michael Bourn. Bourn is still an elite talent in center field and can easily steal 50-60 bases for a team. I’m curious though why no one is seems terribly interested in Bourn at this point.
Bourn could help several teams out with their problem at the leadoff spot in their lineup and could be this year’s Jayson Werth in free agency. I think the team that does end up signing Bourn will find themselves in playoff contention within two years of getting him. Bourn has shown more power recently as well and is not just a one-bit player with his speed anymore. I’m not sure how many teams are looking seriously at Bourn but there are several who should be.
It is almost unbelievable that spring training is just two months away now with the season just over three months away. I thought more of the top free agents would have been signed by now but Bourn still sits out there. If teams like the Seattle Mariners, Milwaukee Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks are playing attention, they could be in for a major surprise with Bourn. I guess all of the fans in those cities and around the country will have to continue to wait to see what Bourn decides to and where he decides to go. I don’t think we will be waiting too much longer though.
