10 MLB Managers Who Deserve Coal in Their Stockings

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s time to discuss which MLB managers were naughty or nice. For the purpose of this article, however, I will solely discuss the managers who don’t deserve good things in their stockings.
I can’t think of a sport that’s easier to coach/manage than the sport of baseball. I truthfully believe a majority of baseball fans smart baseball fans could be successful managers at some level. Heck, Billy Haywood proved that even a 12-year old boy can do it!
Most of the managers in baseball are dinosaurs that ignore the most basic forms of percentages and probabilities. That’s why it drives me nuts watching some of these guys do what they do. Whether it’s lineup structure, bullpen management, or horrible hit-and-runs, these ten managers gave me plenty of reasons to serve them a nice piece of coal in their stocking.
These are the ten worst managers we saw in 2012. And for a majority of them, we won’t see how bad they are in 2013, seeing as some of them got canned for being the true Thurman Mermans that they were.
Robin Ventura
Robin Ventura may have done pretty well in his first season as the manager of the Chicago White Sox, but I will never, ever forgive him for bunting with Kevin Youkilis. I should sue him for causing me a great amount of emotional distress due to that decision.
Ron Washington
Ron Washington is probably the worst, "best" manager in baseball. People love claiming that Washington is one of the best, but some of his decisions are downright nutty, like playing Michael Young everyday. I really don't know if there is a manager as bad as Washington is at making lineups, but hey, what do I know?
Joe Girardi
I'm actually one of the very few people that is completely indifferent about the Bronx Bombers. But I am basing my decision on the Twitter outcry when Girardi goes all "Binder Joe" on things. I like a manager who is analytically sound, but Joe might take it a little too far.
Dale Sveum
I'm doing this on behalf of Cubs fans everywhere, although I really don't know what they expected out of the team this season. It will be interesting to see how long Sveum lasts on the Northside, figuring that this season will tough as well.
Terry Collins
I guess this depends on how you view it, but Collins basically ruined Johan Santana's season when he let him go for the Mets' first no-hitter in franchise history. I guess a Mets fan is better suited to determine if Collins deserves coal or not.
Manny Acta
Want to know how bad the Cleveland Indians were last year? I could make a case that they were worse than the Astros; a weak case, but a case nonetheless. Even though Terry Francona has strong ties to the Indians franchise, it blows my mind that he took that job over all of the other ones he could have gotten.
Jim Tracy
Jim Tracy isn't the whole reason why the Rockies' pitching staff was in shambles, but the whole four-man, 85-pitch limit rotation was straight madness. On the other hand, though, I have no other solutions to fix Colorado's pitching issues.
John Farrell
So much for commitment, eh? Farrell, who constantly stated he wasn't leaving for Boston, did just that earlier in the off-season. However, with all the trades Toronto has completed, I'm willing to bet Farrell is slightly regretting his decision.
Bobby Valentine
To say Bobby V didn't live up to his expectations with the Boston Red Sox would be a massive understatement. Not only did Valentine stink, but he had tiffs with the players all season, most notably Kevin Youkilis, who was eventually traded.
Ozzie Guillen
I think coal may be too good for Mr. Guillen. Heck, I think calling Ozzie Guillen mister might be too good for him. We will never see a more vile, stupid, ignorant buffoon in the game of baseball. Not only are his managerial decisions awful, but he's also a clueless loudmouth. All I want for Christmas is a season without Ozzie Guillen, please.
