There aren’t a ton of options still left in free agency in Major League Baseball with just over a month to go until spring training gets underway. The biggest name left for starting pitchers would be Kyle Lohse who could fill a hole in almost any team’s rotation for 2013. I think the best fit now for Lohse would be the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels are in desperate need of more pitching help behind Jered Weaver and C.J. Wilson and Lohse could be plugged into the No. 3 slot in the rotation and perform quite well. With the offense that the Angels now possess, their pitching is lacking with Dan Haren and Ervin Santana both gone now. Lohse is a quality sinkerball pitcher who might be able to keep the other teams in the American League in check while the offense pounds away at the opposition.
The largest problem for Lohse now is that if a team signs him, they have to give up a draft pick as compensation. That fact alone is probably why Lohse is still a free agent at this point. Lohse will find a home sooner than later though as the calendar turns to 2013 and if the Angels are looking for a World Series, Lohse would be a perfect candidate to be in the top half of their rotation. The Angels always seem to find some additional money somewhere just like they did in signing Josh Hamilton. It is time for Arne Moreno to open his checkbook yet again and sign Lohse to help out his pitching staff.
