The Texas Rangers Should Sign Kyle Lohse
Kyle Lohse might be the best pitcher left on the market. The Texas Rangers made a serious run at Zack Greinke, were ready to give Josh Hamilton the money he was wanting, and came up short. They’ve came out and said they want a bat and an arm and there’s good ones on the market. This is why Kyle Lohse makes a ton of sense for the Rangers.
Lohse is coming off the best season of his career, and he’s learned how to pitch effectively without being a major strike out guy. He’s going to get overpaid by someone, and it’s a matter of time. The Rangers do need another guy they can plug in the 2-4 hole of their rotation and Martin Perez isn’t that guy (In my opinion). Going out and maybe spending a little more than they want on Lohse is probably still an option regardless if it goes down or not.
How about a three year deal around $48 million? Is this a bad contract? Probably. Will Lohse be as good in the AL as he was in the NL? I believe he’d be a little worse but not by much. Will he be able to anchor the rotation? Yes. Either way, the Rangers would be a better team with this sign and it’s not a long contract. Whether any of us like it or not, pitchers are overpaid more so than anybody and Lohse will be no different.
We’ll see what happens, but I believe Lohse should land in Texas.
