Has Scott Boras Represented Michael Bourn Out of a Job?

There is no doubt that Michael Bourn is a quality player. If you don’t believe how good he is, just ask his agent Scott Boras. Boras would no doubt let you know how great Bourn is and how much your team would have to give up in order to sign the legend in the making. After all, we all know that Bourn is the best center fielder in the game today, so that’s why Boras is making sure he doesn’t get to play.

I like the Atlanta Braves and I saw firsthand just how good Bourn really can be. He is a really good outfielder. He has speed enough to serve him well in the line-up and in the outfield. I can say that almost any team would probably be better for having him on their roster. At the same time I think the Atlanta Braves did just fine replacing him for a price they were willing to pay. Why did they know they couldn’t sign him? Because early on they knew Boras would be a headache to deal with.

How many other teams will Bourn fail to make the cut with because of what Boras demands for him? I don’t begrudge the man a hefty contract but can we honestly say that he is the best in the game at that position? I don’t think so. The truth of the matter is that he will wind up with the Texas Rangers or some other team that is willing to pay a large sum for a good player. He might already have the comfort of knowing who he was lacing up shoes for if his agent wasn’t demanding so much.

Boras has probably not run Bourn out of a job for 2013. It is a real possibility that he has pushed to the point that Bourn won’t get a job with a team he likes, however. In the end I guess it really doesn’t matter as long as Scott Boras is happy. If you’re asking yourself why an agent has to be happy with a player’s deal instead of the player, then you and I are asking the same question.
