The Washington Nationals have a dilemma on their hands now that they have re-signed Adam LaRoche. Washington needs to figure out what they are going to do with Michael Morse since there are no open spots on the field for him. It is obvious Morse is getting traded but it is a curious decision by Washington to keep LaRoche around and to move Morse.
Morse is still a threat at the plate even as he hits age 30 and still has a number of years left in him. There are teams like the Seattle Mariners that should jump all over the chance to get Morse. Washington doesn’t seem to be asking for much in return for Morse and Seattle needs offense in a bad way. There could be a good match with the two teams and wouldn’t destroy the core that the Mariners are developing. Seattle could put Morse in left field and while Morse isn’t a great fielder, he has no interest in being a designated hitter. The fact he can hit 25-30 home runs a season should be the appealing factor.
Washington will trade Morse before the 2013 season gets started and it will happen sooner than later so why not at least take a chance on Morse if you are Seattle. The American League West is stacked outside of the Houston Astros so just trying to get to .500 should be the goal for 2013. If the Mariners can swing a trade to get Morse, maybe that goal isn’t as far-fetched as it may appear on paper.
