Francisco Liriano Needs To Hope Pittsburgh Pirates Finish Signing Him

The 2012 Major League Baseball season was one that was pretty forgettable for Francisco Liriano. Liriano started the year with the Minnesota Twins before being traded to the Chicago White Sox without having much success in either place. This offseason, Liriano was about to sign with the Pittsburgh Pirates and while everything is in place, it now appears that the deal may be off because of an injury that Liriano suffered in December. Who knows what the injury is or what happened but this is very bad for Liriano no matter what.

Liriano really needs to get his career back on track and Pittsburgh would have allowed him to get out of the American League and maybe have some success in the National League. Hopefully Liriano can get this injury healed so he can sign the contract with Pittsburgh and get ready for the 2013 season. The fact that the injury itself isn’t public knowledge spells trouble for me though. You can throw all sorts of ideas out there from rotator cuff to labrum to even the elbow again.

This was a big offseason for Liriano in rebuilding what he did during his rookie year in Minnesota. Everything looked like it was going Liriano’s way but now a big roadblock is in the way. Pittsburgh should probably look for other options at this point including even Kyle Lohse, who would bring a huge boost to the rotation for the Pirates if Liriano isn’t healthy. The last few weeks, months and years are just not going Liriano’s way.
