There is still about a month to go until Major League Baseball spring training gets underway as the season gets started a bit early with the World Baseball Classic this year. There appear to be some rumors floating around with Rick Porcello and how he could be traded by the Detroit Tigers to the Chicago Cubs in a potential three-way trade. Porcello would be a nice piece to put into the Chicago rotation, but should Detroit really want to make a move like this? I really don’t think so.
While Porcello may have struggled in recent seasons, he is still young and could become a solid No. 3 starter in Detroit behind Justin Verlander and Anibal Sanchez. I don’t know who the Cubs are offering in this trade but I would have to think that they must give up something good for this to work. There is still a lot of potential there with Porcello and if Detroit gives up on him now, the Cubs could become the winning party in the end.
Porcello could be plugged into the No. 3 slot in the Cubs rotation if Matt Garza is traded and with a move to the National League, Porcello could be much more successful. There are a lot of pieces that still need to come into place for anything like this to happen, but it is a storyline to have your eyes on during January and early February. It may turn into a trade that benefits everyone involved if it does happen in the next couple of weeks.
