Projected 2013 Lineup for the Seattle Mariners

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Mariners are not supposed to contend this year due to their lack of impact arms. As for their lineup? Frankly, I think this lineup has the potential to do some damage, if guys like Kyle Seager and Dustin Ackley take their next steps as professional hitters. I also think Franklin Gutierrez will have to step up a little bit from the bottom of the order, but we’ll see. This lineup has the opportunity to get on base and create some havoc. Even though they missed on Justin Upton, there’s no reason why they can’t succeed.

Here’s a preview of what they’re 2013 lineup:

1) Dustin Ackley- 2B

2) Kyle Seager- 3B

3) Jesus Montero-C

4) Kendrys Morales- DH

5) Justin Smoak- 1B

6) Michael Saunders- LF

7) Franklin Gutierrez- CF

8) Casper Wells- RF

9) Brenden Ryan- SS

The key to this lineup is going to be Smoak. I have him penciled in the five-hole becuase of his power potential, but he needs to start living up to the hype. If he can drive in close to 100 runs, this lineup has the chance to be extremely dangerous. We’ll see what’s in store for the Mariners, but I think they’ll win close to 81 games if everything above happens. While this won’t be quite good enough in the AL West, it builds on their 75 wins from last season and gives them hope. There’s hope on its way in the pitching department, but it won’t be here for at least a year. Still, there’s hope in the Northwest yet.
