Miguel Cabrera Loses Fan Vote For MLB The Show ’13 Cover

The official results are in for the MLB The Show ’13 video game. Andrew McCutchen will appear on the cover, after a fan vote crowned him the winner. Miguel Cabrera, who won the AL MVP and a Triple Crown, fell short of the cover finishing in third place.

The seven finalists for the cover included: McCutchen, Cabrera, C.C. Sabathia, Matt Kemp, Bryce Harper, Buster Posey and Ryan Braun. All of them took to Twitter to get votes using hash-tags and offering prizes to people who voted for them. Surprisingly, Mike Trout was not one of the finalists in the contest.

I’m guessing that Cabrera isn’t too hurt by not being chosen for the cover. The Tigers slugger won the Triple Crown and MVP. Voting for the MVP was controversial, as Miguel beat out rookie Trout, who had a much more well rounded defensive and base stealing presence. With Trout not in the running for the cover, I guess this was one less place to have a debate of who had the better 2012 season.

Personally, I voted for Cabrera as the most deserving to grace the cover of the annual baseball video game. In 2012, Cabrera led the American League in batting average (.330), home runs (33) and RBIs (139). Cabrera also posted a .393 on base percentage and scored 109 times.

McCutchen on the other hand had a batting average of .327 with 96 RBIs and 31 home runs. In the National League, McCutchen finished third in MVP voting. The Pittsburgh Pirates star received 108,148 votes. That was good enough to demolish the competition. Sabathia finished in second with 89,056 votes and Cabrera was well behind with 76,740 votes. The game comes out on March 5th.
