World Baseball Classic Waste Of Time
We are reaching the final weeks of the offseason in Major League Baseball with teams beginning spring training early due to this season’s World Baseball Classic. I love baseball more than any sport out there but I really hate the WBC. I don’t see the need for it as baseball should be a sport in the Olympics where countries can play one another but without that, this event has been thrown upon fans.
The biggest issue I have with this is that players now have to be ready to play in a competitive, playoff-like atmosphere in March and when the event ends, it is back to exhibition games. How does that work going back and forth? If you want to have the World Baseball Classic, why not just get four countries together and play it during the week of the All-Star Game? That way, the players are already in game shape and they can just keep going through their team’s regular season when it is over with.
There are just too many injury risks in having this event. There are countries that probably love this event and love cheering for their country, but I just can’t get into it. I will watch it, obviously, and hope that the United States wins, but I won’t be screaming at my television like I will be doing when the regular season starts in April. It is just another event that Bud Selig had to have to drum up more worldwide interest in baseball, but it is one that could be done away with.
