Will John Jaso Deal Work Out For Oakland Athletics?
With the 2013 MLB season right around the corner, the Oakland Athletics are doing everything they can to make sure they have enough talent to make another run at a second-straight AL West title. One key acquisition the Athletics have their expectations high on–former Seattle Mariners catcher John Jaso.
The Athletics acquired the catcher last week and quickly gave him a new one-year deal to avoid any chance of arbitration for the 2013 season. Jaso only spent one season with the Mariners in 2012, but he set career highs in numerous categories such as batting average (.276), home runs (10) and RBIs (50) in 108 games.
If 2012 is any indication of what to expect–Oakland could see big results from their new catching next season.
Everybody remembers the type of Magic displayed by the Athletics towards the end of last season and there’s no question this team will do whatever it takes to make sure they’re contenders once again in 2013. Despite their early exit in the playoffs, the argument can be made that no team was hotter towards the end of the regular season last year than Oakland and it should be interesting to see how well they perform in the division this year now that Josh Hamilton–who signed with the Los Angeles Angels–is no longer a member of the Texas Rangers.
Whether or not this will happen, only time will tell–but the addition of Jaso to the lineup was certainly a step in the right direction to make sure this team makes another run at the AL West title in 2013.
