Being open to criticism is a good quality that we can all afford once in a while. It’s not easy being someone in a position of power. A man in power has to make tough choices and when he does, many will question those choices. But at the end of the day, you can go home knowing you made a difference, one way or another.
Houston Astros general manager Jeff Lunhow has been highly criticized for some choices he has made with the team. People are mad at the fact that he traded away already-established players. Lunhow traded away some good men in an effort to reshape the Astros, getting rid of Carlos Lee, Brandon Lyon, and Brett Myers, just to name a few veterans. Lunhow’s great idea was ‘let’s get rid of these old players and bring in some raw talent from the Minor Leagues.’
I am all for innovative thinking. If not for those who were brave enough to think outside the box, we wouldn’t have great products like peanut butter, canned soup or Justin Beiber. But when you decide to make a decision, think of all the possible outcomes. If an idea looks great on paper, it probably will not work well in reality.
Every instinct telling Lunhow not to get rid of such experience players were ignored. However, he stands by his questionable decision.
