Matt Cain Will Be Even Better If Given Help In 2013

The San Francisco Giants have a lot of things going for them as the team gets ready to open spring training. San Francisco has just enough offense to get it done along with a superior pitching staff led by Matt Cain. Cain finished 16-5 last season for the World Series champions with an ERA of just 2.79 and there is no doubt in my mind that Cain is now the leader of the San Francisco rotation. Cain appears to be set to have an even bigger year in 2013 as well.

Cain was the No. 2 starter for a long time behind Tim Lincecum but with Lincecum’s failures last season, Cain began the ace by default and took it by storm. The scariest thing about Cain is that he has the pitches to throw a no-hitter he is out there. Cain has thrown over 200 innings as well the last six seasons and if he can get some more run support this season, I truly believe that Cain will finish with more than 20 wins, which would be a career-high.

Cain is in the prime of his career at age 28 and it really showed during the 2012 championship run. If the Giants want to win their third title in the last four years in 2013, they are going to need Cain to keep pitching the way he has for the last four seasons. It would be great if the Giants would get some more offense around him as well because it is a scary battle right now for opposing teams when they have to face Cain.
