The Texas Rangers Should Look Into Kyle Lohse
I wrote an article yesterday saying the Texas Rangers need to look into trading for a good number two starter to really solidify their rotation. But there was one man I forgot about. That is Kyle Lohse. After Michael Bourn signed with the Cleveland Indians Lohse became the best free agent left on the market.
Why is Lohse still on the market many are wondering? Well he, like many late-signing free agents, is represented by super-agent Scott Boras. Boras has been asking for somewhere in the teen millions per year. Multiple teams have said that they would be interested in Lohse if the price came down but at the moment there doesn’t seem to be a big market for the free agent righty.
Lohse proved last season that he is a valid number one. He’s not an ace, but he is a number one. Last season was a fantastic one for Lohse posting a 16-3 record with a 2.86 earned run average in 211 innings.
The Rangers do need a top of the rotation guy if they want to compete this year. Obviously, it would be preferable to get a guy who isn’t anywhere near the wrong side of thirty but Lohse would be a good filler until they can go out and get a young star.
Lohse is not going to be mistaken for a young man anytime soon but on the one year deal that Boras is most likely asking for this late in the off-season, Lohse would definitely be worth the $14-17 million that he will be paid.
