Is Dustin McGowan Done in Toronto Blue Jays Plans?

Dustin McGowan broke into the Toronto Blue Jays major league club in 2005. Since that time he has started only sixty games and appeared in just eighty. The injury bug will not leave McGowan alone, especially since 2008. He is one of those guys everyone wants to root for but at what point are the Blue Jays going to have to say they are done?

In 2013 he had hoped to come in healthy and win a spot somewhere on the Blue Jays pitching staff. Shoulder trouble is flaring up once again and basically any rehab has been stopped still where he is. The Blue Jays manager said that right now there is no place for McGowan in the rotation anyway so there really is no rush. It makes you wonder if the Blue Jays will make room for McGowan at all or find a way to go another direction.

One thing is for certain. If everyone in the world gives up on McGowan, he will not give up on himself as long as there is any possibility whatsoever for a recovery. He said he thinks it is a minor setback and he will start throwing on flat surfaces again soon. You have to admire his fight and his drive. I think the Blue Jays think he is basically done. It really makes me want him to find a spot with a team not as stacked and come back better than he has ever been.
