When you take a step back and look at what Prince Fielder has done in his career, it isn’t hard to see how great of a hitter he is. This is a guy that has 260 home-runs and 764 runs batted in for his career at the still young age of 28. The Detroit Tigers, who singed Fielder going into last season, couldn’t be happier than to have such a great hitter in their line-up with so many great years still ahead of him. Then you look across the clubhouse to Miguel Cabrera and you begin to understand why this team is a World Series contender every year.

All Cabrera has done so far in his career is put up 321 homers and 1,123 runs batted in at the ripe age of 29. Talk about a one-two punch from either side of the plate, wow! Last season alone these two combined for 74 big flies and 274 runs batted in. Is there a better duo of hitters in Major League Baseball? I doubt it. Fielder could already have won the MVP possibly if his teammate hadn’t posted a triple crown in 2012. How long can this continue?

Well, that usually comes down to contracts and money. Prince Fielder is hanging around for a while, Tigers fans. He is signed through the 2020 season when he will be 36 years old. He probably will have over 500 homers by that point at least. Miguel Cabrera is a little shorter stint. His current contract runs out after the 2015 season when he will still only be 32 and just shy of the 500 homer notch probably. At the very least, counting the 2013 season, we have three more years of this. If Cabrera holds to form it will be interesting to see what happens after 2015. Until then let’s all just enjoy the show.
