As it turns out, Chase Utley seems to be extremely important to the success of his team, the Philadelphia Phillies. To be fair, his absence was certainly not the only one that hurt the Phillies in the 2011 season. It was a biggie though. Utley has been the core and the heart of that team for so long now that when he is gone, the entire franchise looked different. When you think of the Phillies, one of the first names you think of will definitely be that of Utley.
Last season his knees wouldn’t allow that and his loss really was a big one. He is back and healthy now though. One thing that has shown up already during Spring Training is that Utley really is quite a professional. You get the feeling watching his swing and the way he goes about his business on the field that he is going to be as good and ready for opening day 2013 as he ever has been in his career. He’s just one of those guys that you know will do what it takes to be on top of his game when it counts.
Their first spring game displayed that as he already has his first RBI. The simple run that was batted in wasn’t really a huge thing in the grand scheme of baseball seasons. What was good to see was that quick compact swing that flung the single into the outfield grass. That swing will bring the heart back to the Phillies clubhouse and line-up. They must be ecstatic to have him back. He is obviously itching to let the entire National League know that he and the Phillies are back for business.
