The United States of America has a lot of expectations coming into the World Baseball Classic. While this team may not be as good on paper as the past two teams, the expectations are still there. It’s an unfulfilled goal that all American baseball fans thought should have been fulfilled the past two times. Team USA has the perfect leader in Joe Torre.

Managing Team USA wont be hard for Torre. He managed the New York Yankees during their dynasty years. With expectations of George Steinbrenner and a rabid fan base, managing Team USA should be a cakewalk for Torre. His laid back approach should be able to help a team that’s full of veterans, even if some of them have never played in the tournament before.

He’s got a coaching staff of familiar coaches to him in Larry Bowa and Willie Randolph. He’s got stars like Ryan Braun, David Wright and Joe Mauer to lead the offense. He’s got Gio Gonzalez, R.A. Dickey and Craig Kimbrel to lead the pitching staff. He has quality utility guys in Ben Zobrist and Willie Bloomquist that can play anywhere.

Torre knows how let players police themselves. When you have an quasi all-star team, to me that’s the right approach. The players and the country know what’s a stake. Joe Torre is the perfect man to lead them. Torre is going to find himself in the Hall of Fame at some point and probably soon. He can potentially add a championship for team USA to his already impressive resume.
