The World Baseball Classic is almost here. That probably brings different feelings to different people and players. For me, I think it is much worse on pitchers than hitters. That bodes well for Baltimore Orioles slugger Adam Jones who is leaving for Team USA as of early this coming week. Reportedly he is fully ready to go and really who could question him?

If you think about it hitters only have to get their legs under them, their bodies ready and their timing down. Considering that, as long as they have their conditioning in, they will just benefit from seeing more wide ranging pitchers in the World Baseball Classic. Center fielder Jones says he started early this year to ensure that his legs were in good shape. He knows and fully admits that the risk of the World Baseball Classic is the chance the players take of getting injured.

While it is very refreshing for the Orioles I’m sure, to hear Jones explain how and why he is prepared, I wouldn’t be surprised if a few of the coaching staff were secretly hoping for Team USA to make an early exit. It’s great for these players to represent their country in the WBC. I don’t mean to suggest that they shouldn’t take part. I just think the thing should be moved to where it doesn’t coincide with the most important part of the spring season. Hopefully with Jones being prepared physically, the Orioles won’t have to worry about that this year.
