Carlos Peguero Could Be Major League Ready for Seattle Mariners
Spring Training camps can become very crowded this time of year. There are veterans that know they have a spot and are just getting ready. There are young players that know they have a spot and are just preparing as best they can. Then there is everyone else. Young, younger and veterans all trying for a few spots on a Major League Baseball roster, it’s no wonder some talent falls through the cracks.
That could be the position that Carlos Peguero is in this season. Peguero is in camp with the Seattle Mariners trying hard to earn a spot in the outfield reserves and boy is he ever making a statement with his play. Whether a thunderous bat or sliding catches; Peguero came to this spring season to play and win a position.
He’s hitting .429 with three homers and four runs batted in. He hasn’t always faced the top of the line pitchers each game but this at least bodes further attention. When you look at his minor league numbers, he has torn up triple-A for two consecutive years. Though, when he received the call-up each season to the majors he faired not near as well.
Peguero is unique in that he has six years of minor league experience but is still in his mid-twenties. He has plenty of time to have a successful major league career. Standing well over six feet tall and weighing in at around two-sixty, Peguero is far from a small young kid. Maybe this season it is finally time for the big guy to make it in the big time.
